History was written by the victors.

Mythology was written by the living.

Dead men tell no tales — only truth.

Ask the Dead, and they will say Persephone was never a goddess. She was a mortal woman, chosen by a God, to help him rule a realm of mortal souls he could never understand. The Dead know the myth of Hades and Persephone is the greatest love story never told. And that whole rape thing? Fake news.

There’s just one problem with mortal queens — they can be killed.

As an assistant registrar at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, 26-year-old Emmeline Sullivan knows all the stories of gods and men — except her own. After surviving the accident that claims her best friend’s life, memories of Emme’s previous incarnation as an Eleusinian temple priestess and sworn Daughter of Demeter begin to surface, along with the supernatural abilities she once wielded as Queen of the Underworld. When the goddess Hekate discovers the location of Persephone’s lost soul and tells Hades, the two immortals develop a plan to help Emme rediscover who she truly is and bring her home. But when Persephone’s assassin learns that the queen is no longer dead and sets out to correct the problem, can their plan succeed before Hades loses her a second time and forever?

The Lost Daughter is the first book in The Necromanteon, a dark fantasy series for adults. At 130,000 words, this story blends elements seen in Neil Gaiman’s American Gods with the alternative history hooks utilized by authors Dan Brown and Harry Turtledove. With epic fantasy (Under)world-building, horror, and romance, this series is for the Percy Jackson/Greek mythology fans who are now all grown up and living in a post-Game of Thrones world.

I have officially entered the querying phase for The Lost Daughter! Please follow me on Twitter (@melodywingfield) and subscribe to my website (in sidebar or on home page) for updates about my debut novel and more info on my journey to becoming a traditionally published author.
